If you run, you're a runner. You don't need the fancy gear or the perfect body. Just a good pair of shoes, some self-discipline, and a why. Everyone has one. Let's find yours.
"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."
My running story starts the way the best ones do. A sleepover, a peanut butter Power Bar, and a one-mile fun run at a county track meet. I was a little kid tagging along with my babysitter, a high school cross country runner. I don't remember much about the race. But I still have the t-shirt.
Running has been in my family for generations. My grandpa was a sprinter fast enough that his records stood for decades. My mom still holds field event records at our high school. My sisters ran. I ran. I competed in cross country and track through high school, ran on scholarship at the Division II level, and have since crossed the finish line of the New York City Marathon and two other marathons.
I became a certified running coach because I had an incredible example of what it looks like to truly invest in athletes. The coaching staff at my high school, especially Coach Jeff Schember, showed me that dedication and genuine care for the people you coach changes lives. I want to be that for someone else.
But more than anything, I coach because I want people to challenge themselves and realize their full potential. If you run, you're a runner. Whatever your why is — it's enough. And together, we'll honor it every mile of the way.
Everyone has a why. My job is to help you find yours, honor it, and run toward it one mile at a time.Erika Wyar, RRCA Certified Running Coach
